High-speed friction stir welding of steel plates with silicon nitride tool and back plate

Abstract

This report uses the welding tool and backing plate made of ​silicon nitride in friction stir welding of austenitic stainless steel. To be efficient use of frictional heat is generated, high-speed welding of 1m/min is possible. In addition, the joint efficiency is at least equal to that of base material. At the same time, the improvment of corrosion resistance was obtained.
