Abstract
The MAG welding procedure without steel-backing for column-to-beam connection joints of steel structures has been studied. This method is characterized by two-pass overhead welding which uses FCW for the back side. Since the toe shape of back bead is good in addition to the absence of a stress concentration part of steel-backing, the fatigue strength of welded joints has been found to be improved, compared with the conventional MAG welding process with steel-backing.
