Abstract
The number of learners who study Japanese as their second language without any formal educational system has increased. However, “self-learning” is individual learning because of its nature, so it is difficult to grasp the actual situation. There are still few studies targeting “self-learning”. In this study, interviews were conducted with learners who learned Japanese and Korean language by herself and analyzed using a qualitative research method TAE. When learning a new language, she first studied grammar intensively using textbooks. Later, she collected new words from raw materials such as YouTube and articles. And she learned new words using a word learning app that could be enjoyed like a game via internet. She has no specific goals such as passing exams or getting a job. She was aiming to “talk to people” and enjoyed learning process itself.
