Abstract
During comprehensive inquiry time for first-year high school students, inquiry learning related to solving problems in the local community and revitalizing the community was carried out. Through the class, students deepened their understanding of the importance of inquiry learning and knowledge related to revitalizing the community, visited stores and businesses near the school, thought about solving local problems together with local people, created new ideas, and conducted public relations activities. During the one year of study, there were two presentations, an interim presentation and a final presentation, and the representatives gave presentations at local events.
A mixed method study using interviews and questionnaire surveys was used to investigate and analyze the inquiry learning that tackled solving problems in the local community during comprehensive inquiry time, and it was found that it fostered a variety of qualities and abilities. Improvements were seen especially in expressiveness, dialogue and collaboration skills, interpersonal relationships, and future problem solving.
This practice was not implemented by the school alone, but was realized in collaboration with the Lifelong Learning Center and the city hall, and was consistent with the objectives of the partner organizations.
