Abstract

 Because massive sediment transport is observed in the sheet flow regime, to understand the mechanism of the sheet flow is quite important to investigate a coastal process. Authors have investigated inner structure of sheet flow layer by the numerical simulations using the LES-DEM in the light of the particle scale. But, sufficient validations to the numerical results have not been performed.
 In the present study, average and fluctuation of particle velocities are measured by the image analysis using the PIV, concurrently the reproducibility of the LES-DEM is checked by the measured data for particle velocities. Then the component of the shear stress in the sheet flow layer is numerically investigated.
