Abstract

To prevent a breakwater caisson slide or turn down due to tsunami attack, an additional rubble mound behind the caisson was proposed after 2011 Tohoku Earthquake. To protect the additional rubble mound against the scour due to tsunami overflow, armor blocks are proposed to be installed on the mound. However, the stability of armour blocks against the overtopping stormy waves hasn't been clarified yet. To clarify the stability, a series of hydraulic experiments and numerical simulations were conducted in this study. According to the result, it was clarified that the edge of the additional rubble mound are the weak part against the overtopping wave.
