Abstract

From the disaster survey of vessels moored along the terminals in the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake Tsunami, it is required how to express the wave force of those vessels. Especially in beam seas for the mooring vessels, a huge disaster in ship’s mooring system have been experienced. An experimental study on the wave force in beam seas for a model ship which is modeled as a large coal carrier has been conducted in two-dimensional water tank during a tsunami bore. The surface elevation, current, wave forces of the fixed model ship, and ship motions and mooring tensions in mooring have been measured. The property of the tsunami bore, wave forces, ship motions and mooring tensions are investigated, and the wave force in sway during beam seas is a huge load similar to a displacement of the tunami height at the ship.
