Abstract
In Urado Bay, Kochi pref. Japan, Some chemical properties of sea water seem to be influenced with land water and sediment through the action of tidal current. Here, this point was tried to be clarified on the content of inorganic phosphate.
Surveying the vertical distribution of phosphate, the concentration of this element was higher in the upper layer and the bottom layer. Accordingly, the phosphate-minimum occurred in the middle depth.
The diurnal variation in the phosphate content was observed with the particular interest to the upper, middle and bottom layer. In the upper layer the chlorinity was always lower than in the bottom layer, indicating the higher degree of influence by land water. In the bottom layer the chlorinity is higher except at the time of ebb when it is lower, compared with the case of the middle layer.
The diurnal variation in the phosphate content was more evident in the upper and bottom layer than in the middle layer. The variations of formers were recognized somewhat similar to the tidal change, although there were found some discrepancies among them.
