Abstract
By the results of calibrations of Knudsen's burettes and pipettes of about thirty examples respectively, the author has ascertained the ranges of the errors of them. The absolute values of the ranges are mostly within 0.20 in the case of burettes by the unit of per mill, and almost the same value in the case of pipettes by the unit of cubic centimeter. Therefore, when we employ the burette and the pipette which are of the same sip in both instrumental errors, the correction ε for the total errors may he given in the simplified formula as follows:
ε=εB-R/15·εP,
where εB and εP are instrumental errors of burrete and pipette respectively, and R is the burette reading.
It is convenient for chlorinity determinations that the value of the correction of the instrumentel error is approximately zero or small. The author has deviced the method of combination of the instrumental error of the burette and that of the pipette in order that the value of the correction is approximately zero or small in the above formula.
