Liquid-phase mass transfer coefficients at the free surface Of agitated vessels in turbulent region were measured by gas absorption for several gas-liquid systems. Experimental results for partially contaminated distilled water were explained by Levich's theory.
Effects of energy dissipation on mass transfer coefficients for organic solvents having clean surface, were found to be similar to those of the surface renewal theory. Local energy dissipation a in the vicinity of free surface was measured by hot wire flow-meter as about 6% of average a in the vessel, by which mass transfer coefficients were correlated fairly well for both organic solvents and distilled water.
