Abstract

The method of the graphical solution by sectional stereometry gives, whatever the type and shape of propeller may be, an exact value of the polar moment of inertia of propeller which relates to the torsional vibration on shafting. On the graphical solution, the polar moment of inertia is calculated for sectional element of each main part of the propeller, i.e., blade, boss, bonnet, flange, etc. The minor parts of the propeller, for example, set bolts of blade, cement, etc., can be omitted due to their negligible effect. This report, furnishes a concrete explanation for this method and, moreover, some formulas for the preliminary estimation.
