Abstract

It is laborious for designers to calculate deflections of hulls under longitudinal bending moments and shearing forces. Moreover, the deflections which are estimated by the approximate formulae are usually not accurate. In this paper, the author presents new methods to calculate or estimated deflections at midship and deflection curves for the following three cases : (a) For calculation of the deflections at the midships and deflection curves from bending moment curves more simply. (b) For calculation of the deflections at the midship directly from the weight curves and buoyancy curves, regarding the hulls as beams of uniform cross sections. (c) For estimation of accurate deflections at the midship at the stage of initial design.
