Abstract

About twenty years have passed after the technique of statistical quality control (SQC) was initially introduced to the industrial world of our country. Nowadays most of companies in Japan take part in this problem positively. According as the development of free trade, we have had a new understanding of importance of quality control as ways of rationalization and constitution betterment of the company, And, at the same time, the object of quality control has changed itself; Today's quality control means not only maintenance nor improvement of goods quality, but also quality control in general enterprize activities, so to speaK, total quality control (TQC). Therefore, the quality control activities will be given more and more important share in management. Generally speaking, the analysis of data from quality control have mainly depended upon human computation, and it has always needed plenty of time and labor to distribute the quality information to the authorities concerned. Sequentially, the main function of correct and speedy transmission of the information has often been lost in customary quality control. From this reason, we have had such an opinion that it will be the most urgent need to combine managers and labors functionally by way of introduction of a computer as an information processing facilitiy to parts of the quality control activities. Kawasaki Heavy Industries has also been executing the total quality control. In this report, we want to introduce especially a successful example of the on-line-controled computer system for quality control.
