Three methods of inclining test are introduced. An improved type of U-tube device which consists of one level gauge, one water tank and a connecting hose, is superior to a conventional U-tube or a pendulum method in accuracy and workability for measurement at inclining tests. Making use of water ballast as inclining weight is useful for large sized vessels having upper wing or side tanks, for which otherwise a large amount of solid ballast is necessary. Free surface effect can be utilized by filling shallow water into hoids in case of vessels without upper wing or side tanks but having large GM at inclining test.
