Abstract

A number of roll on-roll off ships recently have been built. These ships have propeller shafting supported with bossing and resonance frequencies of the propeller shafting-bossing system tend to decrease. Therefore one has to be aware of the fact that resonance frequencies can fall within the operating range of the shaft RPM. This paper deals with the calculation method of coupled vibration of propeller shafting and bossing and the method is applied to a roll on-roll off ship. Results of the calculation and those of the measurements show an acceptable agreement.
