Abstract

Recently, many jack-up oil rigs have been constructed in Japan. The jack-up rig consists of two major structural components, i. e. platform and leg. Particularly, legs may govern the global strength of unit and, accordingly, strength should be carefully investigated. The legs are so designed not only to support platform weight but also to withstand environmental load due to wave and wind etc. And, these loads are transmitted in way of engagement of jacking unit and contact with leg guides. Noting the actual behaviour of unit under expected loads, authors, first of all, have studied the local strength in way of leg and jacking unit by experimental approach.
