Abstract

The discussion in this paper on the process of the assembling on slab in shipbuilding is based on a 38,500t oil tanker. The figures in this paper may, therefore, not be suitable in every cases. They will require some modifications according to the welding efficiency. However, the following summary may be given from the result obtained: 1. In a case of the assembling on slab of a 38,500t oil tanker with the assembling period 5 months and slab coefficient 59.3 (average slab efficiency 1.7t/100m^2/day), considering peak time along, it is necessary to provide with manual welding arrangement of 0.93 unit/100m^2 and automatic welding of 0.1 unit/100m^2. 2. In this case crane arrangement of one unit for 1,500m^2 is necessary, but sufficient allowance should be made in practice. 3. Even if the assembling period be shortened to 3 months, peak alone being taken into consideration, hardly any modifications are required in the welding and crane facilities which are needed for 5 month assembling period. 4. Since the peak times of slab efficiency and of welding do not always fall on each other, it would not be adequate to study the welding equipment on the hasis of slab efficiency only.
