Abstract

Starting characteristics and speed controlling of A.C. motors especially for deck machineries prevented the A.C. electrification of ships. As the A.C. deck machineries, the Leonard system, pole change system, etc., are well-known. But O.S.K., T.D.K. and Mitsubishi Kobe Shipyard, in close cooperation, completed the perfectly A.C. electrified deck machineries after a long time investigation. The features of the A.C. winch are as follows: (1) Electric power source is A.C. 440 volts direct. (2) Rope speed can be controlled at will from extremely low speed to maximam, 190 m/min and over. (3) Two winches can be controlled easily by one operator. (4) Ruch current to source is so small and power factor is so high that we need no consideration about them. (5) Controller has some cheque terminals and maintenance is easy. Those of the windlass and mooring winch are: (1) Electric power source is A.C. 440 volts direct. (2) Windlass motor is 3peed pole changed wound rotor induction motor, and mooring winch motor is 2 speed pole changed wound rotor induction motor. (3) The characteristics are suitable for their purposes.
