Abstract

Semiology and Speech Act Theory belong to different theoretical traditions. However, in order to understand human beings who can use language, both types of theories are required. In other words, both theories must be unified into a “theory of communication”.
To solve this problem, the anther: (1)examines Luhmann's concept of Medium/Form-relationship, and (2)reconstructs semiology in terms of a series of these relationships. In the conclusion, the anther (3) combines these considerations with the conception of pragmatics.
