Abstract
Abstract: Laparoscopic findings on a total of 31 cases with hepatic cancer were examined in order to classify them in details according to the appearance of the liver surfaces. These cases consisted of 15 cases with hepatomas, 5 chlangiomas and 11 secondary carcinomas, their laparoscopic findings and histologies being compiled properly. Subsequently, we have obtained the following results: (1) Liver cirrhosis was most often complicated among the patients with hepatoma, followed by cholangioma and rather rare in secondary cancer. (2) Grossly, hepatoma appeared irregular in shape and somewhat ill-defined in margin, and cholangioma and secondary carcinoma appeared round and well-defined. (3) "Cancer pit" can be a unique feature and often seen in secondary cancer, whereas it was rather unusual and shallower in depth in primary cancer as compared to that seen in the secondary. (4) As to colour, it was reddish in tones in hepatome, while ivory-white in chlangioma and secondary cancer. (5) Capillaries proliferated diffusely in hepatoma in contrast to cholangioma and secondary carcinoma in which the capillaries were often seen proliferating around the skirts between canerous and noncancerous parts of the liver.
