Abstract
Of 35 patients with hepatolithiasis who were treated in our clinic during past 15 years, 2 patients had cholangiocarcinoma in the left lobe of the liver. We reviewed the clinical and pathological findings of these patients and obtained the following results. Namely, recurrent bouts of cholangitis were found throughout the course of hopatolithiasis. PTC or retrograde cholangiogram demonstrated a marked dilatation and stenosis of the intrahepatic bile ducts in these patients. Histological findings showed an obvious periductal inflammation and an epithelial hyperplasia of the intrahepatic bile duct, and demonstrated a co-existence of epithelial hyperplasia and cholangiocarcinoma in the same bile duct. On the basis of these findings, an important suggestion can be drawn concerning etiology and therapy of hepatolithiasis associated with cholangiocarcinoma.
