Abstract
Liver tissue specimens of 7mm long were obtained bioptically, perfused in isotonic saline, and minced finely. Free round cells were then isolated, and their lymphocyte subpopulations were investigated by the same methods as described in the previous report.
More T lymphocytes and less B lymphocytes or Null cells were found in acute viral hepatitis than in other diseases including chronic hepatitis. There was no significantdifference in the percentage of T lymphocytes between chronic active and chronic inactive hepatitis. This finding in liver tissues contrasted with that in peripheral blood; active form had less T lymphocytes. No difference was observed either in the percentage of B or Null lymphocytes between the two forms of chronic hepatitis or in overall subpopulations between HBs antigenpositive and negative cases. Lymphocyte subpopulations in chronic alcoholic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis resembled those in chronic hepatitis.
