Abstract
The white peach scale Pseudaulacaspis pentagona (Targioni) inhabits the branches under the leaf layer of tea trees. Special purpose pesticide applicators were developed for treating the scale. This was because in this case, when conventional applicators were used for applying pesticides, they could not reach the scale easily. The adhesion position and control effect were investigated by changing the application rate by using various types of applicators, including the arch-shaped applicator. The results suggested that 1,000L/10a might be an adequate application rate. Further, the adhesion position of the water sprayed on the tea bush differed across the tested applicators. In all the tested applicators, approximately half of the sprayed water escaped to the ground. The arch-shaped and stick-shaped applicators showed sufficient control of the scale in tea fields.
