Abstract

This study intends to make clear the nature of highrise-fires by analytical approach to the causes with reference to data of 28 cases of actual research.
The author was able to find the following facts :
1) Origins of fire-outbreak (or original fire sources) were almost the same as in the case of general building fires ;
2) Mediums which contributed to fire-spread in highrise-fires were quite differ from general building fires.
For instance, vaporized gas from floor cleaner and combustible insulator covering air-conditioning ducts caught fire by sparks or arcs used for welding or combination structures ; carpet of banquet hall or coats in the cloakroom of a hotel caught fire by embers of tobacco or tobacco ashes ; and settings and drop-curtains in the stage caught fire by sparks or flames used for the play at the theater, etc.
