Abstract

The heritage buildings are usually equipped with fire protection equipment such as water gun and drencher system exteriorly in addition to fire alarm system and fire extinguishers. But, these outdoor fire protection equipment is mainly intended to prevent fire spread from other buildings. In this study, the author studied how the fire protection equipment worked for the control of fire incidents in the heritage buildings through the analysis of several major past fires. As it is impossible to control the progress of fire occurring from inside only with these outdoor fire protection equipment such a water gun, we should promote the installation of fire extinguishing equipment in earlier stages of fire such as indoor fire hydrant.
