Abstract
Last year the curriculum for nursing students at Shiga University of Medical Science was revised based on the educational policy aimed at improving practical nursing skills. One of the characteristics of the new curriculum is the introduction of a 120-hour physical assessment composed of three parts. Physical assessment (a) is a 45-hour basic laboratory course. The syllabus for this course is arranged as an integrated laboratory program based on human anatomy and physiology with practical nursing skills for the assessment. To effectively prepare for the lab course, we selected lab items using reference materials from questionnaires completed by students who participated in the previous curriculum.
