Abstract

The authors have described a method for evaluation of antimycobacterial activity of tuberculostatica and the serum fron patient under treatment with them. The drug solution or the serum was superposed on an agar medium in a test tube in which tubercle bacilli were diffusely inoculated. The bacilli in the upper zone of the medium were inhibited to grow into colonies. Only the bacilli which had been suspended in a limited zone below the growth inhibitory area could grow into colonies. The latter zone with bacterial colonies appeared as a turbid disc in the transparent agar medium. The depth of the growth inhibitory zone is related to the concentration of the drug.
