It was shown in the second report of this study (Kekkaku 41: 401, 1966) that the pathogenic scotochromogens isolated in this country represented almost uniform characters and could be considered to form one species. We obtained a number of well documented strains of the group II scotochromogens from the American Type Culture Collection in the courtesy of Dr. E. H. Runyon and Dr. E. F. Lessel and compared them with the pathogenic scotochromogens isolated in Japan.
