Abstract
Simultaneous measurements of two velocity components and temperature were made in swirling and non·swirling turbulent diffusion flames confined in a tube. Turbulent fluxes of momentum and heat, turbulence kinetic energy and intensity of temperature fluctuation in Favre-averaged form were obtained by correlating the velocity components and/or temperature fluctuation for flames with and without swirl to investigate the effects of the swirl. It was pointed out that the turbulent fluxes of momentum and heat, turbulence kinetic energy and intensity of the temperature fluctuation are suppressed in the presence of the swirl. The magnitude of the generation terms of the transport equations of the turbulent fluxes of momentum and heat and the intensity of the temperature fluctuation was estimated and the dominating terms were revealed to interpret the interactions of turbulence, density non·homogeneity and pressure gradient induced by the swirl.
