Some stainless steel tubes and aluminium alloy tubes, from 5 to 30 mm in inner diameter and about 1 mm in thickness, have many small holes in the side face. Perforating into the tube from outside, burr is certainly produced inside the tube. In general, the tube is so slender that a conventional deburring tool is hardly inserted into the tube deeply, being impossible to deburr. Therefore, a new technology has been considered to deburr inside such a slender tube by a simple technique. In this experiment, Magnetic Abrasive Machining is applied for the precision deburring of the inner surface of the tube. It is shown the burr produced inside the tube can be completely removed using a simple equipment. Moreover, the possibility of the precision edge finishing is confirmed. This paper discusses the process principle by the application of Magnetic Abrasive Machining and a few deburring characteristics.
