Abstract
We synthesized Pd(II) complex 1 of N,N-diethyl 2-pyridylacetamide. Its structure, reactivity with potassium picrate, and extractability and liquid membrane transport ability of picrate anion with complex 1 at water/chloroform system were investigated. The Pd(II) complex 1 was prepared by the reaction of Pd(PhCN)2Cl2 with N,N-diethyl 2-pyridylacetamide. The complex 1 took trans-PdL2Cl2 configuration by X-ray crystallography. In the extraction experiment of potassium picrates with 1 as an extractant, it was found that not potassium ions but only picrate anions were picked up from aqueous phase to chloroform phase, from which reaction product 2 was precipitated. X-Ray crystallographic analysis of 2 elucidated that the Pd(II) complex 1 can convert to 2 that has trans-[PdL2]2+(Pic-)2 structure under water/chloroform biphasic condition. To the contrary, the back-extraction of picrate anions took place from chloroform phase with 2 to aqueous phase containing one hundred molar amount of KCl, in which complex 2 can return to complex 1. This system is further applied to new type of transportation system of picrate anion, in which picrate anions can be transported from source phase to received phase based on structural changes of Pd(II) complex between 1 and 2.
