Abstract
C-C bond lengths and magnetic susceptibilities of 5,10,15-trimethylenetribenzo[a,f,k]trindene (truxenene), tricyclopenta[a,f,k]trindene, and tricyclohepta[a,f,k]trindene are examined by use of semiempirical MO methods. The results for the bond lengths show that truxenene has four benzene-like and three ethylene-like moieties, tricyclopenta[a,f,k]trindene has three fulvene-like parts, and tricyclohepta[a,f,k]trindene has three heptafulvene-like parts. The calculated C-C bond lengths of truxenene are in agreement with the available experimental results for triphenyltruxenene. The calculation results for magnetic susceptibilities predict that 5,10,15-trimethylenetribenzo[a,f,k]trindene and tricyclohepta[a,f,k]trindene are diamagnetic whereas tricyclopenta[a,f,k]trindene is paramagnetic.
