Abstract
o-Quinodimethane is known to be a useful reactive intermediate for the synthesis of polycyclic compounds since it gives easily cycloadducts with olefins. The corresponding furan-based quinodimethane is also useful for the construction of condensed heterocycles including furan moiety. We have found that a precursor, 2-trimethylsilylmethyl-3-iminofuran, effectively generates the intermediate to afford cycloadducts with various dienophiles.
