Abstract
As novel conjugated compounds, tetracene derivatives with different
substituted ethynyl groups at 5,12-positions were synthesized. These compounds were synthesized by reaction of 5,12-tetracenequinone with (trimethylsilyl)acetylide, followed by phenylacetylide. Various aryl groups were introduced by subsequent desilylation and Sonogashira reaction. Reductive aromatization of these products gave the desired compounds. Their UV-vis and fluorescence spectra were measured. The effects of substituents on the spectroscopic properties will be discussed.
