Abstract

A release experiment of adult tarnished plant bug, Lygus rugulipennis Poppius, to adzuki bean, Phaseolus angularis L. showed that the bug injures the bean seeds with stinging marks on them. Seeds harvested from four crop fields were examined, and 4 to 12% of them were recognized as injured. In addition, results of these experiment and examinations suggested that feeding by the bug caused not only stinging marks on seeds but also shriveled seeds.
