Abstract

Release experiments of adult tarnished plant bug, Lygus rugulipennis Poppius, to immature adzuki bean (Phaseolus angularis L.) pods in several bean growing stages were done in 1997. The result showed that full-lengthened pods with small, still growing seeds are highly susceptible to infestation of the adult bug. Pods with more grown seeds are less susceptible.
In 1997, the number of adult bugs caught by sweep net in adzuki bean field increased during September, and number of susceptible pods decreased in early to middle September. Major period of infestation was thus considered to be late August to early September.
