Abstract
Background : The so-called “rush parturition” or “parturient women with no prenatal care” were studied.
Methods : Of 2473 cases of delivery during a period of 5 years and 9 months from January, 1997 to September, 2002, 25 cases (1.01%) of parturient women with no prenatal care were studied.
Results : They consisted mainly of women aged 20-30 years with 7 cases in their 20s and 15 cases in their 30s, their mean age being 31.4 years. The proportion of multipara was overwhelmingly high. By nationality, there were 19 Japanese (76%) and 6 foreigners (24%). Transvaginal delivery was found frequently. They followed a very quick course of delivery, with the time from admission to delivery being within 10 minutes in 4 cases (16%), within 1 hour in 11 cases (44%) and precipitation delivery in 3 cases (12%). Gestosis, infections, complications in neonates (low birth weight, polydactyly, Down syndrome, stillbirth) were confirmed at a high percentage and unpaid delivery expenses were noted in 40% of them.
Conclusions : These results suggest that no prenatal care were very dangerous and risk factor for delivery. As the social background, “rush parturition” have been observed in patients with monetary problem.
