Development of Fiber-Shaped Devices and Their Applications to Composite Materials

Abstract

There is a research, called “smart structure, ” which combines sensor and actuator devices with structure in order to improve the reliability and safety of the structure. Here, fiber-shaped devices are desirable ones in order to reduce the effect of the devices on the structure. Until now, various fiber-shaped devices were researched and developed. We developed a piezoelectric fiber, which has a metal wire in a core, so that it can be used to vibration suppression or health monitoring, only by embedding it in the structure.
