Abstract
Hingganite-(Ce) was approved by the IMA-CNMMN as a new mineral. It occurs in a druse-type pegmatite at Hirukawa-mura, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. It is pale tan, vitreous and transparent, with white streak. Mohs hardness is 5-6, and density = 4.28 g/cm3. An electron microprobe analysis gave an empirical formula; (Ce0.820La0.325Nd0.133Pr0.061Y0.030Sm0.011Gd0.002Dy0.001Ca0.600) Σ1.983Fe0.239Be2.017Si2.017O8.203(OH)1.522. The lattice parameters were determined by the Rietveld method with the IP-Gandolfi XRD data; S.G.= P21/a, a = 9.8973(11), b = 7.6282(8), c = 4.7505(6) Å, β= 90.416(8) °, V = 358.64(7) Å3, Z = 4.
