Abstract
A corundum⁄YAG eutectic fiber sample was produced by the micro-pulling-down method with the substitution of Sc2O3 for 3,5 & 10% of total Al2O3 in the binary Al2O3⁄Y3Al5O12 eutectic system. In the 3%- & 5%-substituted samples, typical "Chinese script structure" was modified into colony structure, but the basic crystallographic relationship of <001>corundum⁄⁄<112>YAG⊥ solidification direction was maintained. In the 10%-substituted sample, primary garnet single crystalline rods were formed in the eutectic matrix and the different crystallographic relationship of <001>corundum⁄⁄<100>YAG⁄⁄solidification direction was specified.
