Preliminary study on the female preference of Neolucanus progenetivus (Coleoptera, Lucanidae) to the wood decay type of oviposition substrate

Abstract

As the first step to develop the substitute artificial oviposition substrate and larval diet for the ex-situ conservation of Japanese endangered species of the genus Neolucanus, oviposition preference of the females of N. progenetivus to the wood decay type of oviposition substrate was investigated. As a result, it is suggested that the females of N. progenetivus have the oviposition preference to the brown rot.
