Abstract
We report the first record of an entomopathogenic fungus parasitic on the larvae of Neolucanus protogenetivus protogenetivus. The fungus recorded is an anamorph (asexual phase) that forms synnemata, and it may belong to the genus Metarhizium because the color of its spores and stems is green to black-green, but further detailed examination is needed to identify exactly. Most entomopathogenic fungi are known to be a parasitoid and kill insects, especially their asexual phases are used for biological control of insect pests. The impact by the spread of the entomopathogenic fungi, including the genus Metarhizium, on the local populations of endangered beetles such as N. p. protogenetivus needs to be studied in detail.
