Abstract

This review summarizes maggot therapy. Fly larvae have been used to treat wounds for centuries. Maggot therapy now uses sterile larvae of flies for the debridement of chronic wounds. It is not only expected to be useful as an alternative to conventional therapy for wound healing, but also sometimes to heal chronic diabetic foot ulcers and to prevent amputation of limbs.
