Abstract
The surface-structure by means of the phase-contrast microscope, electron microscope, and the strength, the elongation and the degree of dye absorption, on the flat-shaped abnormal silk observed in floss obtained from cocoons mounted under the high temperature and humidity, were studied. The results obtained were as follows.
1) It is considered that the flat-shaped abnormal silks were more stretched than other abnormal silk, according to the results of the strength, the elongation and the degree of dye absorption, and the observation by means of the phase-contrast microscope and electron microscope.
2) It seems that the cleanness defects, neatness defects were caused by the flat-shaped abnormal silk involved in raw silk.
3) It is thought that the cause of the occurrence of the flat-shaped abnormal silk were the irregular spinning at high temperature and humidity, the drying and shrinkage of silk just after spinning and the unbalance in the amount of fibroin pressed out from both silk glands.
