From comparison of the synthesized polyester from dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol and glycerine with Mylar (polyethlene terephthalate) in pyrolysis curves and pyrolysis velocity, it was found that the main pyrolysis reaction of polyester was little affected by the existence of branched units. The both polyesters gave a maximum pyrolysis velocity in the vicinity of 410°C, but the corresponding temperature of the synthesized polyester was some what low. The activation energy of thermal degradation for the synthesized polyester was estimated from the weight loss data.
Furthermore, from the change in the infra-red of OH, CH and C=C stretching vibration regions the mechanisn of thermal change of polyester was discussed.
