Study of Facial photographs 1. Comparison of the facial profile of Japanese with that of Americans by facial photographs

Abstract

Among orthodontic patients of 620 Japanese and 99 American and treated our clinic during three and a half years from 1947 to 1950, 432 Japanese and 50 Americans were chosen for this study because of its completeness of gnathostatic models and facial photographs.
In order to make Comparison of facial profile of these patients, the following measurements were made :
1. Frcm gnathion to orbital plane.
2. From corner of mouth to orbital plane.
3. From ala nasi to orbital plane.
From the results of these measurements very interesting facial profiles, such as Fig. 2. were reproduced indicating very clearly the major differences between Japanese and Americans.
