A number of isolation techniques using a Todd-Hewitt agar containing 10% serum were tried in an attempt to culture gliding bacteria from the oral cavity of human, guinea pigs and rabbits. All efforts were unsuccessful except for the isolation from guinea pigs. Eight strains were isolated by placing oral swabbings from the guinea pigs. All strains were morphologically and biochemi-cally similar to those of Alysiella filiformis described by Steed. However, serological types of these organisms could not be demonstrable by the hemagglutination with sheep erythrocytes coated with antigen. It was also found that the Simonsiella standard strains cross reacted with Alysiella strains.
