Abstract

The importance of nanostructures are increasing as the recent development of biological and photonic research field. Especially, the metal nanostructure, that has fluent free electrons, is a key structure for the upcoming research field such as metamaterials. This paper introduce two metal nanostructures fabricated using spherical colloidal particles: metal nanocups, and its quadrangle structures. We set three processes 1) fabrication of two-dimensional (2D) colloidal crystal composed of dielectric spherical particles (200-500 nm dia.), 2) metal coating on the crystal, and 3) uncoupling the coated metal from/with the dielectric materials. The optical characteristics of the metal nanostructures were also examined.
