Effects of Oxprenolol New β-Blockade on Healthy Volunteers

Abstract

Oxprenolol, a new β-blocking agent at a single dose of 40, 80 and 160mg. at a total dose of 24mg divided 3 times a day, was adminstered orally to seven male healthy volunteers between 24 and 34 years of age. On the effects on blood pressure, heart rate, electrocardiogram, dermal blood flow, bowel sounds, galvanic skin resistance, finding of blood and urine, biochemical finding of serum, other symptoms and complaints were studied. Change of blood pressure was produced at dose of 80mg of oxprenolol and fall of blood pressure was produced in dose higher than 80mg. A decrease of heart rate was produced caused by this β-blodaer at the dose more than 40mg and the decrease of heart rate, more than 80mg. As a side offect, it was found nose obstruction in a case of 40mg, and claims of pressure of chest, palpitation, dizzness and increase of value of transamidase were found in one case of 160mg.
