Some observation on various preparations of milk for infants with congenital heart diseases

Abstract
Nutritioal management of infants with congenital heart disease is very important. But it is especially so when infants have complication of the congestive heart failure, chronic hypoxia with acidosis, pulmonary hypertension, repeated infection and gastrointestinal absorption desect. Evaluation of specific nutritional care was performed on 51 infants with congenital heart disease who were fed with specific diet contaning various preparation of formula shown in Table 1. The infants studied in the present report were devided into four groups. The first group of infants received prepared milk which was made after commercial formula (FMU)^[○!R] added with dextrin. The second group was fed with a high calorie low natrium milk formula (LN and MN) which was added with medium chain triglycerides. The third group received low natrium formula (Na 20). The fourth group received a fat emulsion (Intralipid) for intravenous nutrition. It was concluded that the first group showed the greatest growth rate when compared to other groups. Only side effect that could be associated with present nutritional care was diarrhea, diaper dermatitis and slight loss of appetite in the second group. The low natrium foumula used in the third group was not significantly effective for evaluation. Levels of several blood lipids were estimated for the fourth group to investigate the metabolic capacity of the infants who received i.v. infusion of "Intralipid".
